End of Year, 2023-2024
End of Year, 2023-2024
PRA High School Families, we have made it to the end of 2023-2024 school year! As GLCs we want to thank you for all of the ways you've helped make this an amazing year for our students. Our end-of-year newsletter introduces you to the new GLCs who will take over their roles in the summer and details summer gatherings.
You'll find summer academic information (reading and math challenges), school supplies, and more on PRA's Summer 2024: High School page on our website. Be sure to check this page throughout the summer as information will be updated.
We hope you all have wonderful and relaxing summers and we look forward to seeing you in August!
Welcome to high school, Class of 2028!
My name is Sarah Melssen and I am looking forward to getting back into the GLC role. I was previously GLC for the Class of 2023 and am excited to help out again with the Class of 2028! When we are not watching Avery play sports or visiting Taylor at KU, my husband, Matt, and I love spending time with family and friends. Go Miners!
My name is Joanne Bliss and I'll be one of your Class of 2028 GLCs. I have two students at PRA, my 8th grader and a 4th grader, and I've loved being a part of the PRA community for the elementary and middle school years. I'm looking forward to working with our families and the high school team to help make the next four years amazing for our kiddos. Go Miners!
At right, you'll find ways to stay in touch with us and each other in the coming year.
And be sure to check out the Summer 2024: High School page (link above) for summer course work, school supply lists, and more.
Have a great summer!
Hello Class of 2027 Families!
Well, we made it through their first year of high school. As we approach sophomore year, hopefully everyone has a better understanding of all the high school expectations. Make sure your student is checking for summer homework, especially in any AP classes they may be taking next year. It's also a great time to work on those community service hours, just be sure to keep track of them all.
I hope everyone has a great summer!
Welcome Rising Juniors! We are so excited for next year and the end of this year!
As juniors, our focus will be After Prom, SAT/ACT, college research, Capstone research, and a bit more freedom for our students such as off-campus lunch privilege and parking passes.
PRA After Prom - you probably saw the pictures, maybe heard some rumors about how much fun it was for the juniors and seniors. Did you know that this is strictly a parent planned and run event? Any grade-level parent can join our team, but Junior families are responsible for the final outcome. Be on the lookout for emails from Johnna and I at the beginning of the school year - it is so much fun and you can donate as little or as much time as you have. We start early, so it's easy for everyone to be involved in some small way!
Some SAT/ACT practice will happen during school, but there are also in-person classes and online practice tests to consider.
College research will happen during Peaks, but also think about visiting college campuses this summer with your junior.
Capstone happens during our senior year, but depending on your students' topic, they may need to start it the summer prior to their senior year.
Community Service hours for graduation
And last, forms to be signed for off campus lunch privileges and parking.
Before we get too excited for junior year, let's refresh on what needs to happen this summer. Remember summer reading for all levels, AP assignments, physicals for sports, and community service hours for graduation.
For parents over the summer, please consider completing the volunteer training; it only takes about 20 minutes.
We hope you have a fantastic summer and be sure to check the PRA website for important dates and information. As always, feel free to reach out to us with any questions!

Seniors!
I can’t believe we are here! Rising Seniors!!!!! I read a post the other day that called this coming year the "Leaving Season." That makes me sad, so I am going to reclaim it as the "Beginning of the Firsts!" There is so much excitement and anticipation.
Let me start by saying, we’ve got this! Together we will weather all the firsts coming our way (and we have a lot coming at us).
Enjoy your summer! Get some college visits in. Enjoy sleeping late (as if..). Take a glance at the summer page on the website. Get some summer reading done. Start figuring out your senior picture options, they will due before we know it! By now, we know this drill. Embrace the new and the old.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at The Senior Sunrise (a senior only breakfast on the first day of school). The senior class shirts will be handed out then.
It is all just starting!
2025 Parents, hug those kids of ours hard. I am going to strive to soak up every minute I can this next year! I hope you join me!
